Description |
The effectiveness of north-south hydrographical barriers in restricting the distributions of Scolecithricidae species (Copepoda:Calanoida) in the euphotic zone of the Indian Ocean was studied. Twenty seven species belonging to 7 genera were identified from the zooplankton samples collected during the International Indian Ocean Expedition. Ten distinct patterns were noticed in the latitudinal distribution of 25 species based on their occurrence and abundance. Two species had only solitary occurrences. The distribution of most of the scolecithricids in the Indian Ocean was restricted to the warm water zone
