Description The planning and design of all coastal and offshore installations call for an information on wave directionality. This can be accurately obtained through the knowledge of the directional wave spectrum which is commonly given as a product of one-dimensional wave energy S(f) and the directional spreading function D(f, theta). This paper reviews various spreading functions proposed in the past for estimating the directional wave energy and presents their application to the Indian wave condition. It is found that the directional spreading function such estimates energy distribution reasonably well for monsoon wave conditions in this area
