Title A case for riverine archaeology in India

Creator Gaur, A.S.

Description The main objective is to study the river routes and excavate submerged river ports and preserve them for posterity. The ancient cities situated on the bank of the river Ganga such as Varanasi, Pataliputra and Tamralipti have been studied. Most of the ancient cities of India were situated on the major rivers with access to the sea and a few were inundated and destroyed in floods and changes in river courses.
