Description The Autonomous Vertical Profiler (AVP), developed at NIO [1] [2], collects position and water column data over a period of 3 days and transmits through a satellite modem which is collated and stored on a PC. Data includes GPS positions, water column properties related to Conductivity-Temperature - Depth (CTD), Dissolved Oxygen (DO), Chlorophyll–a along with profiler status. The receiving satellite modem feeds data to the profiler GUI and is also deposited into the server. Software has been developed, using freeware Java development tools to acquire the data from the serial port, accumulate in the desired formats, archive and then is expected to be made available to users. The following paper describes the technique and resources used to implement the data management. It is expected that there would be multiple profilers operating at various locations, such as coastal seas, dams and other water bodies. Data would be relayed for archival, processing and be made available to the communities who are interested in research, commercial activities etc., in oceans
