Description h e union territory of Andaman and Nicobar islands is situated between 6O45' N and 13O41' latitude and 92'12' and 93O57'E longitude in the south east Bay of Bengal forming a part of the broken chain of islands extending from Burma to almost Indonesian group of islands, with the 10 degree channel (width of 145 kms) separating
the Andaman group from the Nicobar group of islands. It comprises of more than 572 islands with a total area of 8249 sq. km. The northern most island in this group is the Landfall island near Myanmar which is 900 km from the mouth of Hoogly river whereas the southern
most tip of the Nicobar island is India point (Pigmalion Point ) which is only 150 km from Sumatra islands of Indonesia. The capital, Port Blair is at a distance of 1255 kms from Calcutta, 1190 kms from Chennai and 1200 kms from Vizakapattanam.
