Description 31-36
Multiferroic behaviour of Ti doped Mg₀․₉₅Mn₀․₀₅Fe₂O₄ has been studied using X-ray diffraction, isothermal magnetization hysteresis, dc magnetization and dielectric measurements. X-ray diffraction analysis shows a structural transformation from cubic spinel to tetragonal. On the other hand, the presence of paramagnetic doublet within the sextet shows the presence of electric field gradient (EFG) due the structural transformation. Isothermal hysteresis loop shows ferromagnetic behaviour of Mg₀․₉₅Mn₀․₀₅Fe₂₋₂xTi₂xO₄ and decrease in saturation magnetization with increase in the substitution of the Ti⁺⁴. The decrease in the saturation magnetization is due to the dilution of the sublattice by the non-magnetic Ti⁺⁴ ions and which is explained by the weakening of exchange interaction in the system. The dc magnetization shows that the Curie temperature is decreasing with increasing in the substitution of non-magnetic ions. The presence of the peak in the dielectric constant measured as a function of temperature at 100 kHz indicates the presence of ferroelectric transition in the materials.
