Conductance of benzimidazolium dichromate has been measured in dimethyl sulphoxide-water mixtures of varying compositions in the temperature range 283-313K. The limiting molar conductance, Λօ, and the association constant of the ion pair, KA, have been computed using Shedlovsky equation. Λօ increases with increase in the proportion of water in the solvent mixture. KA is found to be maximum in the solvent containing 20-40% (v/v) water. The free energy of solvation, ΔGi-s, is maximum in 80% (v/v) water suggesting that the ion-solvent interactions are maximum at this composition of solvent mixture. |
