Banana is an important nutritive fruit plant. India is the lead producer of banana in the world. Main varieties of banana grown in India are: Hari Chhal, Poovan, Robusta, Basrai Dwarf, Cavendish, Munayan and Kothia. Some important viral diseases infecting banana plants are Banana Bunchy Top, Bract Mosaic, Streak and Mosaic that severely affect its cultivation and yield. This paper describes the details on viral diseases of banana, the status of research work done on their diagnosis and management at the national and international level, by which farmer related to banana cultivation will be benefitted and production of banana will get increased in our country. |
