The plants have been used by men since ancient times for their various requirements such as food, medicine, fodder, fibre, gum, timber, fuel, agricultural equipments and for other economic activities. The human population has increased rapidly during the last 50 years and the necessities of men have also increased in the same ratio. Consequently, due to the indiscriminate cutting of forests, destruction of habitats and over exploitation of valuable plant species from the natural habitats, they are reduced to a critical stage. An extensive survey has been carried out in the forest area of Vindhyan region to find out the status of threatened plants as per the IUCN guidelines. The present work is described in this paper. |
