The semi-hardwood cuttings (15 cm length) were selected from healthy vigorous middle shoots of Bougainvillea cvs Los Banos Variegata and Cherry Blossom and treated with indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) and naphthalene acetic acid (NAA) solutions each at 0, 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000 and 5000 ppm by quick dip (10 sec.) method. The cuttings were planted in 15 cm earthen pots filled with sterilized coarse sand and kept under intermittent mist in glass roofed chamber for rooting in randomized block design with three replications. IBA at 4000 ppm induced maximum rooting (45.0%) and survival. (77.80%) in cv Los Banos Variegata and 75.0% rooting and 86.70% survival was recorded in cv Cherry Blossom. This concentration was also very helpful in producing greater number of roots and longer root length per rooted cutting than treatments with NAA in both the cultivars. |
