Thirteen strains of facultative marine fungi were examined for siderophore production in iron-deficient media by Chrome azurol S assay. Of these, ten produced siderophores that were identified as carboxylate and hydroxamate. The mucoraceous fungi produced carboxylate, while others produced hydroxamate siderophores. Paecilomyces variotii was an exception in fungi producing both hydroxamate and carboxylate siderophores. |
