Title Antibiotic and L-asparaginase activity of streptomycetes isolated from fish, shellfish and sediment of Veli estuarine lake along Kerala coast

Creator Dhevendaran, K.
Annie, K.

Description 335-337
Selected isolates of streptomycetes from fish, shellfish and sediment of
Veli estuarine lake were tested for antagonistic activity against bacteria,
yeasts and a filamentous fungus. Out of 16 isolates of streptomycetes tested,
the human pathogen Staphylococcus aureus and the fish pathogen Vibrio
anguillarum
were severely inhibited by 10-12 isolates. Streptomyces
AQB PI 104 isolated from prawn Penaeus indicus showed maximum
L-asparaginase activity at pH 7, 37° C and 2-5% NaCl levels.
Streptomycetes from fish and shellfish showed antagonism against fish and human
pathogens.
