Description 889-896
A total of 93 culturable heterotrophic bacteria were isolated from eight ascidians species. Among these, 10 isolates showed extracellular enzymatic and antimicrobial activities against pathogenic bacteria. These ascidian associated potential bacteria were further investigated on their phenotype characters and 16S rRNA genes sequence analysis. Ascidians-associated bacterial strain could be subdivided into two phylogenetically different clusters; two strains were affiliated with Firmicutes (genera Bacillus and Marinobacter sp.) and eight with a-Proteobacteria (Vibrio sp.). Potential activities of the three enzymes (protease, lipase and amylase) were recorded from B. subtilis GA CAS8 and Marinobacter sp. GA CAS9. Ascidian-associated bacterial strains, B. subtilis GA CAS8 and Bacillus sp. GA CAS1 exhibited higher antimicrobial activity against both Gram-negative, Gram-positive bacteria and fungi including B. subtilis, B. cereus, S. aureus, V. harveyi, P. aeruginosa and Candida albicans.
