Numerical models are presented for tidal flow and salinity in the Hooghly estuary, along the east coast of India. A depth-averaged numerical model coupled with a one-dimensional model is discussed. The model has been validated with the available observations for the dry and wet seasons. The influence of storm surges on the circulation is also discussed in this section. A multi-level laterally averaged model for the estuary is also described. The vertical structure of the currents and salinity are validated with spring observations during both wet and dry seasons. |
