Description 49-52
The morphological variations of the whole body and shell valves of the common rock chiton Acanthopleura spiniger were studied. The relationships of length to width of the body and shell width were allometric. The body width to shell width relationship was isometric. The relationships of valve length to valve width and height of the intermediate valves (II-VII) were allometric. However, it was isometric for valves III and V. The curvature indices of A. spiniger specimens ranged from 1.8 to 22.2 %. The number of notches in the insertion plates and the number of ctenidia were determined and discussed as a taxonomic criteria.
