Perna viridis and Sunetta scripta dan control their oxygen consumption rate independent of the variation in oxygen tension between 70% and 100% saturation of oxygen in the seawater. A decrease in the consumption rate has been noticed between 70% and 50% saturation of oxygen in both the bivalves. Between the two species the higher oxygen consumption rate (per mg dry wt) was exibited by P. viridis. Both species can be considered as good regulators. |
