Influence of temperature (24 degrees, 28 degrees, 31 degrees or 34 degrees C) was studied on the feeding rate of predatory cymatiid, Cymatium (Monoplex) pileare fed with edible oyster. The rate of feeding increased from 2 to 5.3 oysters/gastropod/month as temperature increased from 24 degrees to 31 degrees C. Increase in temperature decreased the days of feeding interval from 6.3 days at 24 degrees C to 3.7 days at 34 degrees C. All test animals courted mortality at 34 degrees C on 17th day suggesting it as the upper tolerable limit of temperature. |
