Description |

The bacterium Bacillus sp. isolated from the marine sponge Axinella sp. produces alkaline serine type endoglucanase. The enzyme was most active at pH 8.0 and 55 degrees C. The activation and deactivation energies, calculated from Arrhenius plot, were 7.49 and 19.82 kcal/mole. The enzyme was not affected by 5% (w/v) NaCl, the major cations of seawater like Ca+2 and Mg+2 at 25 mmol/l, but was strongly inhibited by EDTA. |
