Carpospore liberation in the alga Asparagopsis delilei Montagne under the environmental conditions of varying salinities and desiccation were investigated. The spore output was maximum at 40 ppt salinity and minimum at 60 ppt salinity. The plants desiccated for 0 and 30 minutes showed greater spore liberation while decrease in spore output was observed in plants desiccated for 60,90 and 120 minutes. The present study clearly indicates that salinity and desiccation influence the carpospore liberation in A.delilei being less tolerant to desiccation than changes in salinity. |
