Description 335-340
The sedimentation rate of magnesium hydroxide in seawater was examined for different degrees of completeness of precipitation and for different additions of the A-130 flocculant. The study showed that incomplete precipitation of magnesium hydroxide,i.e. precipitation with a nonstehiometric quantity of the precipitation agent; considerably increased the rate of sedimentation of magnesium hydroxide, and thus the capacity of the thickener was also increased. At a precipitation of 80% the capacity of the thickener increased by 71% in relation to complete precipitation. Calculations were made according to Kynch's theory.
