Investigation of the coral reef grounds and its associated biota in polluted and non-polluted station on the western side of the Arabian Gulf (ROPME Sea Area) was carried out after the Gulf war oil spill (1991). The five corals covered an area ranging between 10% in the disturbed or stressed grounds (Fasht Adhm, Bahrain) which resulted mainly from sedimentation to 70% in the grounds with favourable conditions for its growth. Analysis of the biotal diversities and similarities between stations reflected no obvious harmful impact of the oil spill on the Investigated grounds. The paucity of fauna in Fasht-Adhan (Bahrain) seems to be the result of extensive dredging and sedimentation. |
