Description 211-214
The influence of salinity on the total body burden of Etroplus maculatus exposed to Ni, Cu and their mixture was studied under various exposure concentrations. The body residue of metals was salinity influenced only in the case of higher exposure concentrations of Ni and Cu, whereas, in the lower exposure concentrations the rate of accumulation was only metal concentration dependent. The Ni exposed fishes showed higher rates of accumulation in 2.5 x 10(-3) salinity and for Cu the accumulation rate was higher in 5 x 10(-3) salinity. However in fishes exposed to mixture, the rate of Ni accumulation was more at 5 x 10(-3) salinity and for Cu at 2.5 x 10(-3), salinity. The present study indicates that this fish may be useful for monitoring the above metal levels in the estuarine environments.
