Description 215-219
Investigation carried out on design and fabrication of tonpilz sandwich transducer of frequency around 18 kHz for underwater acoustic command applications are presented. Design criterion based on lumped parameter equivalent circuit and constructional details of the transducer are discussed. Electro-acoustical efficiency is evaluated from motional admittance measurement. Frequency response of the transmitting and receiving sensitivities as well as the directional response are reported. The transducer is observed to show a good transmitting peak response (149.5 dB re 1 mu Pa/V at 1m), good receiving peak sensitivity (-161 dB re iV/mu Pa), wide bandwidth (6 kHz) alongwith nearly omnidirectional response. Frequency at which peak transmitting response is observed deviates about 10% from the design frequency.
