The steroidal composition of four molluscs Meretrix meretrix, Macoma birmanica (bivalves), Cerethidea cingulata, Nassarius stolatus (gastropode) and a sea pen Cavernulina sp., has been ascertained by GC-MS. The isolation of cholest-6-en-5 alpha, 8 alpha-epidioxy-3 beta-ol from M. meretrix, reveals the first reported occurrence of this peroxide in a bivalve. |
