Surficial sediment study revealed that the concentration of PHC was higher at the estuarine stations than at the riverine stations. The PHC concentration varied between 249 mu g.g(-1) and 570 mu g.g(-1) dry weight. The higher concentration of PHC could be due to the anthropogenic input which aggregates and settles onto the bottom sediments. The study indicated that the estuarine zone was significantly polluted by PHC. |
