Biochemical composition and trace metals content of C. nucleus and M. ceylonicus were studied. Meat weight, water content, dry weight, protein, carbohydrate and lipid varied with the reproductive cycle of the organisms. Fe showed high and Cu showed low concentrations of metals analysed. Absence of gills and wide mantle surface prevented high metal accumulation, hence the concentrations were more or less uniform throughout the year in both species. |
