Impact of domestic and industrial wastewaters on coastal waters was studied by monitoring petroleum hydrocarbon concentration (PHC) up to 25 km distance from shore along Okha-Ratnagiri coast during 1989-92. Average PHC levels at all the stations were in 3.9-18.1 mug.l-1 range. The values recorded at Okha, Hazira, Daman, Murud and Ratnagiri were low. Moderately high concentrations were observed at Porbandar, Veraval and Bassein. Inspite of heavy inputs, the creek system around Bombay revealed low contamination. Overall low levels below 100 mug l-1 were observed in present study. |
