Stomach contents of 233 male and female common guitarfish Rhinobatos rhinobatos (27 to 180 cm TL) consisted of crustacea, fish, cephalopods and annelids in that order of preference. In small guitarfish, caridean shrimps were the most frequently occurring food items, diversity of stomach contents increasing with size, with fish and brachyuran crabs occurring most frequently in the largest fish. No important seasonal variations in type of food was noticed. Feeding intensity in adults was reduced in summer (June, July and August) the period of gestation and parturition. |
