Water, sediment and husk samples collected from the retting ground of Anchuthengu region, Kerala, for beta-glucosidase producing microorganisms showed wide variations. Screening of 12 bacterial strains for beta-glucosidase activity and growth exhibited narrow ranges. Sodium chloride, sodium sulfide and threonine were essential for growth and synthesis of beta-glucosidase. |
