A new parameter R(pz) is proposed for overall composition of a given sea-state as seas and swells. R(pz) is the ratio between computed peak period using Kruseman's mean wind wave spectrum and observed zero-upcrossing period or significant period of waves (visual/observed). Wind speed, significant wave height and period derived through zero-upcrossing and spectral analysis are used to compute R(pz) and their comparison reveals a better agreement. The proposed parameter is compared with few commonly used parameters available in the literature for estimating sea-state composition or spectral behaviour of waves. The present analysis suggests that, R(pz) is a better parameter to describe sea-state composition for a variety of wind-wave conditions which consists of either single-peaked or multi-peaked wave spectra. |
