Selected ocean surface wave records off Mangalore during SW monsoon and off Cochin during January and February have been analysed to study wave grouing phenomena. The 'run' and 'run length' of waves exceeding and lower than the significant wave height (H(s)) are compared with theoretical results. The observed run lengths of waves exceeding H(s) are higher compared to theoretical and the maximum of 4 waves have occurred in a group. Present analysis shows maximum correlation between the successive waves. However, negative correlation beyond 3 waves apart indicates that, there are still more number of well formed groups which are < H(s). |
