Vertically integrated numerical model has been developed for wind driven seasonal ocean circulation around southern Indian peninsula. The model, driven by climatological monthly mean winds, realistically simulates major features of large scale ocean circulation observed in the region. The principal oceanic features like North Equatorial Current during northeast monsoon season and Monsoon Current during southwest monsoon season are well simulated by the model. The circulation around Sri Lanka and flow through the Palk Strait with the changing monsoons have also been simulated successfully. |
