Description 226-227
Sediment samples were collected from foreshore and backshore regions along the landward coast of the main channel of Chilka lake and their texture and size parameters were studied. These parameters were utilised for describing the size distribution of the clastic sediments, the sediment transport and the depositional environments in that particular area of the Lake. Data on statistical parameters revealed that the sediments of the study region were predominantly sandy in nature. These sediments were transported from the sea-bed into the channel of the lake through the mouth by tidal waves. Due to low velocity of wave action, these sediments were deposited almost uniformly in the channel.
