Seasonal distribution of bacteria growing on the leaves, stems and pneumatophores of Avicennia marina and Sesuvium portulacastrum was studied for 2 y. The lowest population occurred in the premonsoon months (February-May) and the highest during monsoon (June-September) and postmonsoon (October-January) on various parts of these plants. Higher bacterial population was noted on S. portulacastrum. While the roots and stems of both plants supported greater population of vibrios, the leaf surface yielded more isolates of Flavobacterium. |
