Seismic investigations in an area of 700 km2 have brought out a definite reflector at depths ranging from 25 to 75 m below the seabottom. This is identified as a depositional layer by the base lapping nature of the overlying sub-reflectors. Palaeo-bathymetry contour map representing the top of this depositional layer has delineated a palaeo-depression located parallel/sub-parallel to the coast. The disposition of this feature in relation to the seabed sediment distribution in this part of the area suggests its significance as a prospective zone for the accumulation of the placer sands at depth. A palaeo-linear high has also been delineated seaside of this palaeo-depression. This palaeo-high, wherever it is close to the seabottom, is favourable for sampling to know the lithology and hypothetical mineral potential of the underlying unit. |
