Nineteen species of Hydromedusae, 3 species each of Scyphomedusae, Siphonophores and Ctenophores were encountered mostly in the lower and middle reaches of the estuary. Twenty three of the 28 species recorded were euryhaline marine forms and 15 were first reports from this estuarine system. Aglaura hemistoma, Phialidium hemisphaericum and P. globosum in the lower reaches and P. globosum, Blackfordia viginica and Bougainvillia fulva in the middle reaches were dominant species. Coelenterates in general increased in diversity of species with increasing salinity. |
