The Vasishta Godavari Estuary is a normal type of estuary and exhibited wide variations in temperature and salinity due to mixing of waters by the tidal action. The salinities ranged from freshwater conditions to a maximum of 34.33 x 10-3. From the zooplankton samples, 19 forms of polychaete larvae were identified belonging to different genera. The entire larval population can be divided into 2 assemblages. One, belonging to those recruited periodically from the neretic waters into the estuarine system, and the other, purely endemic and remaining within the estuary throughout the period. The ebb and flow current pattern and the organic food are important factors, that seem to control the distribution |
