MF-MPN (membrane filter-most probable number) procedures are followed for the enumeration of total coliforms (TC), fecal coliforms (FC), fecal streptococci (FS), salmonellae and vibrios in estuarine, lake and mangrove biotopes of Tamil Nadu, east coast of India. There is no correlation between TC or FC and the isolation of other pathogens. FC/FS ratio is used in tracing the source of pollution of the investigated environs and observed to be of non-human source. |
