Grain size parameters, viz., mean size, standard deviation, skewness and kurtosis of the near shore sediments of Shankrubag Beach have been studied. Textural study reveals that sand samples are very well to well sorted (SD 0.21 to 0.69 φ), very fine to fine in size (3.14 to 2.58 φ) and mostly mesokurtic to platykurtic (0.75 to 1.99) in distribution; skewness values vary from -0.37 to +0.57. The variations in grain size parameters from the general trend could be attributed to the factors like presence of high percentage of shells, role of small seasonal stream and such others. |
