While green mussels dominated the fouling community within the cooling water tunnel of an atomic power station, coastal waters showed dominance of barnacles followed by hydroids, sea anemones and ascidians in that order. Short-term wooden panels exposed for 20 d showed biomass values from 9 g (100 cm)-2 (20 d)-1 in February/March, to 51 g (100 cm)-2 (20 d)-1 in May. Long-term wooden panels examined at 20 d intervals, beginning from January 1986, showed biomass values from 24 g (100 cm)-2 in April to 135 g (100 cm)-2 in June. |
