Plants occurring in the Coringa, Balusutippa and Pandi zones of the Godavarin Delta were sampled with a quadrat (16 m2) and 959 quadrat samples were analysed. The abundance of mangrove plants varied from one zone to the other and the total number of plants estimated was about 999 x 106. Typical mangroves such as Lumnitzera racemosa, Bruguiera gymnorrhiza and Rhizophora apiculata were rarely found in the mangrove formations of the Godavari Delta. |
