Twenty microfungal species belonging to 12 genera were isolated from mud samples using soil plating techniques. Species of Aspergillus followed by Penicillium were dominant. Aquatic fungi, Achlya diffusa and Dictyuchus sterile were recorded for the first time from Indian mangrove muds. Fungal population was correlated with the mud type. |
