Changes in alanine, succinic acid, glutamic acid, lactic acid, glycogen and aspartic acid were observed in M. granulata subjected to anaerobiosis under freshwater. Alanine accumulation increased in the early hours of anaerobiosis and later succinic acid increased with time. Glutamic and lactic acids were observed to be the minor end products. Glycogen and aspartic acid significantly decreased in the initial hours of exposure, indicating their utilisation. The free amino acids other than alanine, aspartic acid did not show much variation. The results were discussed with reference to habitat conditions of the animal. |
