Effects of lethal [96 h LC50 = 1 toxic unit (TU) = 0.074 ppm] and sublethal concentrations (0.1 TU = 0.0074 ppm; 0.25 TU = 0.0185 ppm) and visually no effect concentration (VNEC, 0.04 ppm) of lindane on O2 consumption were studied using continuous flow respiratory apparatus. Lethal concentration induced significant increase in O2 consumption while sublethal concentrations significantly inhibited the O2 uptake. During the investigation starvation was found to be a stress in toxicological studies. |
