The location of oil slick deposition on the shore and the duration available for weathering have been predicted using monthly wind and current data. Of the 732 spills studied, 135 spills may pollute the Indian Coast with varying intensity. The period May-September provides more chances of severe oil deposition on the West Coast of India. Slick from the farthermost spill considered (370 km offshore) takes only 14 d to reach the Indian Shore during July. A series of 12 monthly charts have been produced, which enables forecast of the slick movement and allows to draw some qualitative inferences on the severity of damage these spills can cause on the shores. |
