Concentrations of transuranic elements Pu and Am present in ultra trace levels in different matrices of the coastal environment of Bombay, Maharashtra, India during 1977-81 were measured by radiochemical separation and alpha spectrometry using internal tracers 242Pu and 243Am. Pu concentrations in coastal waters were of the same order as fallout levels. Pu and Am showed accumulation in some benthic organisms. However the radiation exposure resulting from consumption of such marine organisms appears to be insignificant. |
