X-ray diffraction studies on clay minerals from the surface sediments of the Palk Bay, Tamil Nadu, India indicate the presence of montmorillonite, illite and kaolinite. These minerals show spatial variation with the amount of montmorillonite increasing from the shore towards the deep bay and illite showing a reverse trend. |
