Combined foraminiferal assemblage from the Godavari and Krishna River Estuaries consists of 90 species of which 57 are in living condition at the time of collection. Of the 15 abundant species, 14 species have abundant occurrence in the Godavari Estuary while only 9 species in the Krishna Estuary. Of the 21 agglutinated forms reported from the Godavari Estuary, 8 forms are not represented in the Krishna Estuary. Although the foraminiferal assemblages from the 2 estuaries are essentially similar in species composition the fauna is more diversified in the Godavari Estuary than in the Krishna Estuary, which is attributed to greater food availability and a more favourable substrate in the former. Ten species are new records for the Indian waters. |
