Variations in morphology and distribution of Octolasmis cor from the gills of Scylla serrata were studied. Each of the 3 varieties of O. cor (a.b,c) invariably exhibited preference of infestation to a particular number and region of the crab's right or left gills. Comparatively larger number of O. cor preferred the ventral region of gill probably in response to the proximity of the incurrent respiratory flow, on which they depend for food and oxygen. The variations in form of O. cor appear to be ontogenetic. |
