Polychaete larvae belonging to phyllodocidae, Nereidae, Nephtyidae, Onuphidae, Spionidae, Poecilochaetidae, Capitellidae, Sabellariidae and Terebellidae formed the majority in Porto Novo waters during 1974-'76. Of these, spionids formed the bulk almost throughout the year. Larvae were abundant during high tide, full moon and night time. Monthly mean number of larvae ranged from 12 to 3462/m3. Polychaete larvae constituted an average of 3.34% of the total zooplankton in neritic waters, while in the estuary the percentage composition was 0.86. Among the total invertebrate larvae, contribution by polychaetes ranged from 0.45 to 53.84% in the neritic waters and 0 to 95.99% in the estuary.
